SAUSAGE ROLLS
A savoury pastry that doubles as a breakfast and brunch meal. It can be taken with any desired hot beverage or freshly squeezed juice.
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 cups flour
- 10 sausages (you can steam it for 10 minutes and allow it to cool off)
- 1 ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 25g softened butter
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 3 tsp flour (for kneading the dough)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp nutmeg powder
- 1 tsp yeast
PROCEDURE:
- Sift the flour in a large bowl and add a teaspoon of yeast and a pinch of salt. Whisk this together until all the ingredients are well combined.
- In another large bowl, pour in 1 ½ cups of warm milk, 2 eggs and half a cup of sugar. Pour the flour mixture into the wet ingredients bowl. You can manually knead the dough or you can use an electrical hand mixer to knead it. After 2 minutes of kneading, add the softened butter, then continue kneading for another 3 minutes. Ensure not to over knead the dough, the dough should only be kneaded for 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a bowl and cover with a napkin. Place the bowl in a warm place and allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, take out the dough and cut out small chunks of the dough. Roll it out until the dough is considerably long.
- Take a sausage and gently roll the long dough around the sausage. This should resemble a snake wrapped around a stick. Ensure not to cover the top and bottom with bread so that the sausage can stick out from both places.
- After rolling the sausages, let the dough around the sausages rise for another 30 minutes, then brush them with melted butter before placing it in the oven.
- Preheat the oven under 200 degrees ̊ F for 10 minutes and let the sausage rolls bake for 15 minutes at a 150 degrees ̊ F.
- After minutes take out the sausage rolls and brush some melted butter over them.
- Serve and enjoy with any hot beverage or freshly squeezed juice.
